Google PageSpeed insight is one of the best speed and performance testing tools for websites or blogs. It is developed by Google and we all know Google is a brand name. It provides performance reports for mobile and desktop devices.
Testing the speed and performance of the website is very important. If you know the status of your website’s speed and performance, you can take corrective measures.
Good speed of your website is beneficial for you in a multiple ways like:
- The user gets satisfied with the page loading speed and doesn’t quit quickly. However, if your page loading speed is slow, users may quit your website quickly.
- Good speed may increase lead generation and conversion.
- It helps to reduce bounce rates.
Google PageSpeed Insight tools may play a very important role to analyze the speed and performance of your website. And if speed and performance are not satisfactory, you can take steps to improve it.
In this article, I am discussing a brief overview of Google PageSpeed Insight.
Google PageSpeed Insights
You can analyze the speed of your site on Google PageSpeed Insight easily. You just open PageSpeed Insight and paste the URL of your website in the option. After pasting the URL in the box just click on Analyze.
Now it will show the performance report of the site. It will show a score between 0 to 100. There will be two options. One for Mobile devices and another for Desktop. As you can see in the sample image below. I have tested for my site.
There is three levels of score:
- 0 – 49
- 50 – 89
- 90 – 100
0 – 49 means performance is poor and 50 – 89 means there is a need for improvements. If the score is between 90 to 100, the performance is good.
As you can see the performance score of my site showing 97. It means it is good. The above image is for the desktop.
However, the score for Mobile devices is showing 76. As you can have a look at the below image. It means I need to take some corrective actions to improve the speed. It is showing in orange and performance on mobile devices is not up to the mark.
Google PageSpeed Insights show the performance for desktop and mobile as well. And this is very helpful.
In the same way, you can also test the speed of your website on Google PageSpeed Insights. And you can analyze the score of your website. If you find the speed is not up to the mark, you can improve it timely.
Google PageSpeed Insight also show suggestion, how you can improve the performance. If you like, you can the suggestion also.
Apart from the performance score, You can go through the other details. Because Google PageSpeed Insight also shows the following reports:
- Field Data – Real World data
- Lab Data – Includes First Contentful Paint, Speed Index, Larget Contentful Paint, Time to Interactive, Total Blocking Time, Cumulative layout Shift.
- Audits – Includes Opportunities, Diagnostics, and Passed Audits.
You can go through the detailed reports. And you can analyze where are you strong and where are the problems. The detailed report can help you a lot understand the deep pictures of your performance.
Speed is a Google ranking factor and you should maintain your site’s speed. You can optimize your website to boost speed. But I would suggest you should not compromise on your good content.
The reason for slow speed may be anything like heavy plugins, heavy theme, poor hosting, heavy images, blockings, poor coding, and so on so forth. There is not only one factor that can affect the speed of your site.
There can be multiple things, which you may need to optimize the speed of your website. But be careful while optimization. So that your site does not get hampered while optimization.
