In my opinion, you should always have an additional security layer for the login of your account. Either it is your WordPress login or hosting login. Here, I am going to discuss, how you can enable 2-step verification in SiteGround hosting.
If you are a SiteGround hosting user, you must be aware of the 2-Step verification. And you should enable it to protect your SiteGround account.
You might be aware that brute force attacks are the most common for hackers. And two-step verification is very helpful to prevent brute force attacks.
So. without so much delay let’s go through the details of the process.
Process to Enable 2-Step Verification in SiteGround
First of all, log in to your SiteGround hosting account by entering your login id and password. As you can see there is a profile icon on the right-hand side top corner.
You need to click on that profile icon and you will have the option of Login & Profile along with some other options.
Just click on Login & Profile option. Now there will be a 2-Step verification option. And there will be an option to Enable it. Currently, you will see it in inactive mode. As you can see in the below image.
Now click on the Enable option.
After clicking on Enable, you have a screen like the below image. It will show you the four steps to complete the process to enable 2-step verification in SiteGround. Following are the fours steps:
- Download App
- Add SiteGround
- Confirm Activation
- Verify Phone Number
You need to complete all four steps to complete the process.
So, before you go further in the process, just download the App to your smartphone. You can download Good Authenticator or Duo Mobile App, etc which suits you better.
When you complete the app downloading process, you just click on the Next button on your computer screen.
After it, you will have a QR code and key on your screen. Now open your authenticator app on your mobile and find the option of adding a new account. Just click on add new account
Now you will be able to scan the QR code. Scan the QR code and add the SiteGround account into the app.
If you are not able to scan the QR code then you can also add the SiteGround by entering the key manually. After adding the account click on the Next button.
Now you will have the option to enter the six-digit security code. You can get a six-digit security code from your authenticator app. You just enter the security code and click on the Next button.
After verifying the security code you have completed the third step. But to complete the process to enable 2-step verification in SiteGround, you also need to verify your phone number.
After the third step, there will be an option to enter your phone number. You just enter your phone number.
After it, click on send code. Now you just need to enter the verification code which you receive on your phone. And verify your phone number.
After verifying your phone number, the process to enable 2-step verification in SiteGround is completed.
Now, whenever, you want to log in to your SiteGround account you need to have the following:
- User Name
- Verification Code
You will access your verification code from your authenticating app. If you want to disable it, you can disable 2-step verification at any time.
From the security point of view, enabling 2-step verification is good. And I would recommend you should enable 2-step verification in SiteGround.
In case, anyone gets your user name and password, even there would be a need to enter a verification code to log in to the account. And only you will be able to generate that security code from your mobile phone.
Nothing is 100% secure on the internet. But maximum security is important to protect your account and data. You should always maximize the security level of your account. However, it is 100% your choice, that what kind of security measures you take.
