In this blog, I will explain, how to change the default post category in WordPress? Might be you have noticed that there is a default post category in your WordPress site. And Uncategorized is selected as your default post category.

Whenever you install WordPress software, the uncategorized is available by default for the post category. When you create a post, by default your post category selected as Uncategorized.

Suppose, you want to delete Uncategorized in WordPress. To delete it, first, you need to change your default post category in WordPress. Because before setting another category as the default post category, you would not be able to delete it. There will not be any delete option.

If you want to change your default post category, then this post may be helpful for you. Let’s understand, how you can change the default post category in WordPress.

You can change the default post category in few easy steps. First of all, you log in to your WordPress dashboard and click on the settings.

When you will click on settings, there will be an option of writing settings. Or you can also hover on settings, and writing settings option will appear.

You just need to click on writing settings option. After it, you will be redirected to writing settings page.

On this page there will be a default post category option. And it is selected a Uncategorized. As you can see below sample image for the reference.

Now you click on the drop-down arrow right on uncategorized, your category list will appear.

After it, you need to select a category to set as your default post category in WordPress.

When you select another category as your default category, you just click on save. After this process, your default post category will be changed. For assurance, you may cross-check also that it is changed or not.

Categories are an important factor in a website or blog for navigation. It is important that you manage categories well in your WordPress site.

After changing the default post category in WordPress, you may delete Uncategorized. When you set a new category as default, your post will go to that category automatically. However, you can select a category from your category lists for your post while writing the post.

Changing the default category may be beneficial for you. Because if you forget to select a category for your post, your new default post category will be the post category. And it will not be selected as uncategorized.

You can change your default post category in WordPress anytime. But ideally, you should change it when you install WordPress and start working on it. So that you do not get 404 errors because of it.

Sometimes, you forget to select a post category while writing and publishing the post, the category will category automatically be selected as Uncategorized. So it is beneficial to delete or rename it.

However, it is up to you to change the default category or not. If you want to rename uncategorized, you can edit and rename it easily.
